What are 'Pulpkins'?
Hauntcrafts Pulpkins are a great alternative for those flammable foam pumpkins you may find online or at hobby/department stores. Essentially, they are cellulose fiber shells.
Our pulpkins are made from something we call 'Creature Compound' which is mostly recycled paper that has been shredded and combined with a few other ingredients to form what is commonly called 'Paper Clay.'
Can I use any kind of papier-mâché paste or paper clay on a Hauntcrafts Pulpkin?
Yes! Our products are intended to help avoid the problems some people experience due to thin papier-mâché sculpts.
Our Pulpkin blanks are thick and STRONG! There is no waiting a week or more for multiple layers of thin papier-mâché to dry!
When you get your pulpkin blank; simply glue the halves together using good old white glue. Then, sculpt your work of art. Let it sit overnight in a warm, drafty place. It may take a day or two to dry depending on the thickness of your sculpt but usually overnight is all that is required. Then you can carve, sand and seal it up using urethane or varnish. From there you can paint or corpse your creation any way you like.
How do I make my own creature clay or whatever you call it?
We just call it pulp but it is all virtually the same stuff.
There are a great many paper clay recipes to be found on the internet.
Here is a good DIY version by Scott Stoll which is quite similar to our creature compound:

Is 'Creature Compound' fireproof?
No. It is flame resistant.
While our product is more flame resistant than many expanding foam products; it is -paper- after all and will eventually burn if enough heat is applied.
Our pulpkin shells will char easily but won't burst into flame at the first sign of a conflagration.
Please, DO NOT under any circumstances use a real flame of any kind to illuminate your creations.
What are the cemetery fence finials made out of?
Resin. Hauntcrafts finials are made of a casting material similar to that which you can purchase at auto parts supply stores.
What is a 'Haunted Hide?'
You may have seen bearskin rugs on the wall of a museum or perhaps the floor in your grandparents home.
These are kind of like that.
Our 'Haunted Hides' are made from synthetic materials in the style of extraordinary creatures such as the saber-toothed cat or dire wolf.
Where are your products made? Where do you get the materials?
We are 100% American. Our products are made in the U.S.A. by legal American Citizens. Raw material for our cellulose products come from domestically produced recycled paper. We get pvc from local big box stores. I dunno where they make pvc but when I find out, I'll buy it wholesale from domestic manufacturers if at all possible. That goes for everything we make. If I can get it from a domestic source, I will.
